Naples expanded over the centuries on gentle hills sloping down to the sea. To reach its peaks, there are many flights of stairs and funiculars that run up and down these hills. The city is perfect to be explored on foot, climbing from the historic center across the Pignasecca, a lively market place, to arrive at Corso Vittorio Emanuele, an area of numerous monasteries. We then walk to the top of Vomero, visiting the Charterhouse of San Martino and Castle Saint Elmo. While there, we are able to walk the top of its walls to enjoy a 360 degree view of the city. Afterwards we walk down to the Pedamentina, across the Spanish Quarter, to the monumental area of Piazza Plebiscito.
